DEIN SPIEGEL
about the apps
in 2014 hanseatics rich media and the SPIEGEL-Verlag – developed the ios and android apps for reading dein spiegel.
Dein SPIEGEL is the kids version of the german news magazine DER SPIEGEL aimed at children and teenagers of 8 years and older.
we started by making a prototype to test our new navigation concept: as the Dein SPIEGEL articles are much shorter than in DER SPIEGEL we decided to stack them all on top of each other, so the user could scroll through the entire issue. it became a comfortable experience by giving it additional ways to navigate quickly: a scrollbar colored like the magazines categories and the table of content, accessible through the burger icon. parallax floating images make the scrolling even more fun.
settled on those basics, we started working out the details. adapting the entire print magazine to a digital touch environment developing interactive features like games and quizzes. we integrated different kinds of content like long comics strips and picture galleries.
i took part in ux brainstorming and testing and produced layouts and assets, inspired by the magazines print design and branding, but working on its own design rules according to its medium.
design and development were done in close cooperation with the SPIEGEL-Verlag.
